Choosing Gratitude

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

Have you ever thought about the fact that choosing to be grateful is a conscious decision?  In fact, it is a conscious decision that must be followed by action in order to reap the benefits of a joyful life.  Research shows that people who practice gratitude in their daily lives have stronger personal relationships, and better health outcomes, than those who are constantly complaining.

How joyful are you, really?  Is the smile on your face a facade for the world, while you are really unhappy and miserable inside?  Are you always the “life of the party,” while underneath you are seething with anger?  There are other examples that may describe your personal situation, but the point is, are you experiencing real joy in your life?

Do you want to experience REAL joy on a daily basis?  And for those of you who might say that none of the examples above apply to you; do you want to have more joy than you are experiencing now?  I have a challenge for us all!

Starting today, I challenge each of us to keep a gratitude journal.  I encourage you to write down at least five things daily that you are grateful for.  For those of you who belong to online social networks, I encourage you to share at least one thing you are grateful for on a daily basis with your family, friends and followers.  Gratefulness, thankfulness and joyfulness are contagious!

Please inspire others by sharing what you are grateful for.  Come back often to inspire and be inspired!

The Power of Words

Morning Meditation

I live today with gratitude, humility,

and patience, accountable for:

Serving others;

Building, never destroying;

Sharing my gifts freely and abundantly,

needing neither notice nor credit;

Treating everyone with compassion,

candor, and fairness;

Encouraging others generously;

Honoring others’ feelings;

Regarding everyone as peer and teacher;

Appreciating differences while withholding judgments;

Trusting others, assuming only good intentions;

Forgiving quickly when I feel wronged;

Holding my tongue when I want to criticize or condemn;

Complaining only with love;

Being a source of comfort, inspiration,

and joy for all I am privileged to meet;

Living as I want the world to be.

Gratitude Improves Your Health

Sunday, July 15th, 2012

Did you know that being grateful can reduce stress and improve your health?  Recent research indicates that focusing on those things for which you are grateful can have the end result of strengthening your immune system and improving health outcomes.

Does your “gratitude attitude” need a little work?  Perhaps you may want to start a gratitude journal.  Before you go to sleep each night, write three to five things in your journal that you are grateful for.  Go to sleep focusing on happy thoughts and wake up relaxed and refreshed.  Don’t want to keep a journal?  Share your gratitude when talking to family, friends or co-workers, or post your gratitude list online if you belong to a social networking site.
