STRESS & THE HOLIDAYS

Friday, December 21st, 2012

For many of us, the holiday season can be very stressful. Stress diminishes productivity, motivation, and concentration.  It contributes to illness, including heart disease, high blood pressure, and strokes; and has a negative impact on the immune system. Cortisol (commonly referred to as the stress hormone) is a hormone released in the body during times of physical and psychological stress. Excess cortisol contributes to the conditions described above, as well as hard-to-banish belly fat.

Try the following strategies to reduce stress during the holidays and throughout the year:

  • Eat healthy and don’t skip meals
  • Exercise regularly
  • Enjoy time away from normal routines by spending time with family and friends
  • Breathe, relax, laugh, and have fun!

What do YOU do to keep your stress levels in check during the holiday season?

Choosing Gratitude

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

Have you ever thought about the fact that choosing to be grateful is a conscious decision?  In fact, it is a conscious decision that must be followed by action in order to reap the benefits of a joyful life.  Research shows that people who practice gratitude in their daily lives have stronger personal relationships, and better health outcomes, than those who are constantly complaining.

How joyful are you, really?  Is the smile on your face a facade for the world, while you are really unhappy and miserable inside?  Are you always the “life of the party,” while underneath you are seething with anger?  There are other examples that may describe your personal situation, but the point is, are you experiencing real joy in your life?

Do you want to experience REAL joy on a daily basis?  And for those of you who might say that none of the examples above apply to you; do you want to have more joy than you are experiencing now?  I have a challenge for us all!

Starting today, I challenge each of us to keep a gratitude journal.  I encourage you to write down at least five things daily that you are grateful for.  For those of you who belong to online social networks, I encourage you to share at least one thing you are grateful for on a daily basis with your family, friends and followers.  Gratefulness, thankfulness and joyfulness are contagious!

Please inspire others by sharing what you are grateful for.  Come back often to inspire and be inspired!
